Colonel A. 11. Williams and Lieut.Colonel A. K. Conway, of Army Headquarters.. Wellington, arrived from the. south by train this morning. Captain Donald McKenzie has arrived at Wellington from Auckland to take up his appointment as surgeon at the Second Base Hospital, Troiitlmm. The Hon. Mr. Justice Fair will leave, for Wellington by train this. afternoon to attend a sitting of the Court of Appeal. He expects to return in about a week's time. Mr. L. Smith, of Maiuigakarajnca. was appointed to the Whangare.i Harbour Board to (ill the vacancy caused bv the death of Mr. A. J. Finla'ysoii, at a meeting of the Whangurei County Council. Captain C. C. Vanden-Bergh has been appointed waterfront controller at Wellington by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb. Captain Yandenlicrgh was formerly manager of the Wellington waterside bureau. Professor Maxwell Walker, professor of modern languages at Auckland University College, who has bc-ou sulYerinii from ill-health, was granted leave of absence for the current term at a meeting of the college council yesterday. Dr. E. Iv. Bullcn, senior lecturer in mathematics at Auckland University College, who has resigned his position to accept a similar one at the University of Melbourne, was granted release from September 30 at a meeting of the college council and congratulated on his success. Dr. J. Frederick Staton, conductor of the Sheffield Gioir, England, jvlw has been examining- on behalf of the Royal Schools of Music in the Most Indie---, will come to the Dominion next month to act as judge of music at Hie Wellington competitions before going to Australia.
