MORE PETROL.
FOR TAXIS THIS MONTH.
It was announced last night by Mr. G. L. Laurenson, Oil Fuel Controller, that taxicabs operating in Auckland are to receive increased allowances of petrol this month.
Mr. La-urenson said that single shift taxicabs are to have 120 gallons in April, compared with 108 a month formerly. Double shift taxicabs will be allowed 150 gallons, compared with 135. It is understood that as from May 1 taxicab operators will automatically revert to the former allocation of 108 and 135 gallons. However, further negotiations are believed to be in progress.
The increase for April follows a protest by taxi cab operators to the Metropolitan Licensing Authority against the petrol restrictions. They contended that the allocations were quite inadequate. The authority made recommendations to the Oil Fuel Controller.
