LONG RAILWAY SERVICE.
MR. F. LINDSAY RETIRES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The official who has been responsible for the catering arrangements of all special tours on the New Zealand Railways since 1924, Mr. F. Lindsay, comptroller of the refreshment branch, has retired on superannuation after 36 years' service with the Department. Mr. Lindsay was actively associated with the tour in 1927 of the present King and Queen, then Duke and Duchess of York, and also with the Duke of Gloucester's tour in 1934-35. Mr. Lindsay also played a prominent part in the arrangements made in Hawke'3 Bay after the disastrous earthquake of 1*931, when all services were disrupted in Napier and the Government" appointed him food controller in that area. When the Government Stores Control Board was established several years ago, Mr. Lindsay was appointed foodstuffs purchasing officer for various Government Departments throughout New Zealand. Since the outbreak of war last September he has been assisting in the Internal Marketing Division and has been associated with the purchase and distribution of food supplies for the defence services and other Government Departments.
