Believed To Be Nazi Attack

On Shipping.

PEOPLE BUSH TO SEAFRONT. United Press Association. —Copyright. (Received 1.30 p.m.) LOXDOX, April 18. The .sound of gunfire and dull explosions brought people rushing to the seafront at several south-east coast towns late last night. It is believed Nazi 'planes attacked shipping. Searchlights swept the sea and momentarily lit up a 'plane. The sound of aircraft engines and heavy firing continued for two hours. Bombers unsuccessfully attempted to attack a convoy off north-east of Scotland. The British steamer Swainby (4935 tons) was torpedoed off the north Scottish coast last night. The crew were landed.
