WIDER SCOPE.
PRIZES FOR RAFFLES. TO AID PATRIOTIC FUNDS. MINISTER'S INTENTION. (By Telegraph.—Prees Association.) CTIRISTCHIRCH, this day. An announcement was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. K. Parry, to-day that an Order-in-Council had been prepared for the approval by the Cabinet extending the provisions of the Gamin;; Act to permit of the conduct of raffles for real or persona! property.
The extortion is being made for the duration .P the war and covers raffled designed to artist patriotic purposes. At present the Naming Act limits the conduct of raffles to art prizes and the extension now proposed will have the effect of considerably increasing the scope under which these competitions are held.
Ihe Minister's announcement was made in reply to a deputation from the Canterbury Patriotic Council, pointing out that a furnished hou-c had been offered a> a raffle prize for patriotic fundi* in Christchurch.
