A FIGHTING RACE.
Tn reply to the rather childish note of Mr. C raigi? of the New Lynn Returncl Soldiers. I would fir-t disillusion him ato mv ancest-v. 1 am a New Zealander. horn and bred. Of three brothers, one has already been killed in the Air Force, another is with the Australian Division of Signallers, and I am a guuner. Other members of my family died at the Dardanelles. No man but a tool would question the fighting qualities of the men who fought in the la-t war. and it i* well known that nio»t returned moi have tried to serve asrain in this war. 1 spoke of the pre-eiit genera'ion. and I repeat my remarks of before. The vast majority are far too selfish to make any sacrifice defending their own. Thev make repeated statements of how ready they would be if wc were invaded, but of what use are untrained men. I gladly accept it. though I the bisge-t member of his branch, not the smallest. I have only one condition to make, and that is that our combat be held in public and admis-ion charired. the proceeds to go to the men who have b?en discharged medically unfit from camp and cannot now find work. .Wo. before fighting tln» New Lynn champion. I insist on moeting Mr. C raigie a- a preliminary. After 1 have done away with his spare supplv of wind and he has liecu carried out. the main fight would then b c -lased. L. \Y. LAWSON.
