INCREASED DRINKING?

MOTHERS' UNION PROTEST. At the last meeting of the City Council a letter was received from the Mothers' Union stating that the union viewed with very grave alarm the increased drinking, with its consequent grave effects at present so prevalent in Auckland, and a*ked the council to call attention to the undoubted fact that such drunkenness was in "Evidence not only when the sale of liquor was permitted but also after hours and on Sundays. The letter was referred to the finance committee, on whose recommendation the council decided last night to advise the Mothers' Union that the matter was one which should be referred to the competent authority, the Licensing Committee.
