CONTRABAND CONTROL. RUGBY, March 24. The work of British naval units in the Mediterranean in applying contraband control means arduous duties for British patrols. In one patrol area alone Britisli warships- had "spoken"' 098 vessels between the beginning of 1940 and the end of February. Of these, 410 were communicated with by signal, but not boarded, and of the 288 boarded only a small proportion were diverted to a contraband control base. Every effort is made to ensxire the quiet, smooth working of the Allies' contraband control and the navicert system is being taken adv:;.itage of to a growing extent.
