MODERN EQUIPMENT.
ELECTRICAL TRACTION. ENGINEERS IN CONFERENCE. i (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Recent developments in electrical traction wej-e discussed at the annual conference in Wellington to-day of the New Zealand Institution of Engineers by Mr. W. S. Home. Confining his remarks to direct current developments and urban and interurban service.*, Mr. Home dealt with the difficult jntfdtion in which the operator of electrical traction equipment was placed as compared with the user of ordinarj r electrical machines. The greatest progress has been made either oil new developments, such as the trolley bus, or on new systems where a section or route could be operated completely with new vehicles. Mr., Home made reference to the importance of really good braking on the modern road vehicle, and electrical braking, combined with compressed air, was mentioned as giving probably the ideal results. Touching on probable future developments, he suggested that these would provide for the greatly extended use of equipment making use of remote control and other apparatus departing very conside.rably from the original conception of the simple series motor.
