EFFORTS DERIDED.
1 Ontario Premier Critical Of Government. ] CANADA AND THE WAR. 5 (Received 0.30 a.m.) TORONTO, January 10. [ The Premier of Ontario, Mr. Mitchell * Hepburn, moved in the Legislature a ; motion condemnatory of the Canadian Government's prosecution of the war and announced that he would resign if the motion was defeated.
>' ... : :' Mr. M. Hepburn. Mr. Hepburn—who in the past few weeks has apparently ended the truce in which he refrained from making attacks on the Federal Government, to which he has long been bitterly opposed—resumed a running fire of criticism of the Federal Government's war effort. He alleged that many recruits had contracted tuberculosis through not having sufficient clothing, and generally derided as slow and inefficient Canada's war efforts. The Legislature passed the motion by 44 votes to 10. The Liberals comprised the minority. The Conservatives voted solidly with the remainder of the Liberals in favour of the motion. A message from Ottawa says the Prime Minister, Mr. Mackenzie King, announced that he will reply to the Ontario Legislature next week in Parliament.
