Problem Corner

GRAPE FRUIT says: The cncloscd is the fruit from what was supposed to be an American grapefruit tree, noxo eight years old. It is full of blossom and small fruit, but if they arc Ul:c this then will be no good. The tree is quite healthy. The fruit is thick-skinned —in fact, it is all skin and pith. This is a defect which the Californinn grapefruit has when prown in New Zealand, especially when trees are young. Possibly It is a poor' variety, but in any case, under present conditions it is useless. Whether it will improve with aire I ennnot say, but I am of the opinion that it is hopeless. You would get much better results and more satisfaction from a good variety of Poorman's orange, or New Zealand grapefruit.

4> | D.E.T. (Epsom) says: T have been told pj that if I cut the green leaves off my pj daffodils tlicy will not flower Jicxt year W Is this right. If so, icould you sug- m gest hoto I can make them look more pi tldj). H You must not cut the green leaves off M the daffodils if you expect them to llowcr next season. At this time of the year, fcj however, the foliage Is either dead or yel- fcj low and the bulbs can he lifted and dried, « ready for replanting later on. Any foliage £j left now can be cut away and the beds Kj cleaned up. In early summer, when the K1 daffodil Howers arc over the foliage is jd untidy and where the untidiness is offensive pj the best method is to plant the bulbs far enough apart to allow some dwarf early- £?s flowering annuals, such as Phlox drum- M mondii, mignonette, clarkia, candytuft, pi etc.. to be planted between the rows of m bulbs. ||
