Sowing Iceland Poppies
ICELAND poppies do best if sown where tliey arc to flower, and now is an excellent time to sow the seed whether in clumps in the border or in a bod. Sow the seed in shallow drills and thin out finally to about 10 inches apait. They delight in a light, rich, sandy soil that does not get too wot in the winter. A further sowing may be made in March. This gives the plant sufficient time to develop strongly so as to winter well and bloom freely in spring. There aro sonic excellent strains of seed, but it is well worth while to select the best flowers. Where there is a good variety save the seed. They can bo largely improved by seed selection.
