WEEK-END PRICES IN SHOPS. APPLES MORE PLENTIFUL. VEGETABLE SUPPLY INCREASES. Xew season's apples are increasing in quantity each week, but prices are very tiriw for good quality. Strawberries are nearly finished and are rising to high prices. Tomatoes are cheaper, but above the average at this time of the year. A egetables are increasingly plentiful as a result of the rains. Current prices on city shops are:— Fruit. Apples: Gravenstein, 6d lb; Astrakhan, (kl; cooking, 3d and 4d. Oranges: Jamai<iin, 1,6 to 3/2 dozen; Australian, Valencies. 2/2 to 3/4. Grapefruit: New Zealand, 2%d to 4d each. Lemons: 1/ to •I 1 dozen. Bananas: od to 6d lb. Grapes: Lalifornian, 1/8 lb; hothouse, 2/6 to 3/6 lb. Tomatoes: Hothouse, 10d to 1/4 lb; outdoor, 6<l to Bd. Pineapples: Island, 10d to 1/ each; Queensland, 1/6 to 2/. Strawberries: 1/10 to 3/ a chip. Watermelon: 3d lb. Cherries: 1/6 to 2/ lb. Plume: 4d and 6d lb. Apricots: 10d to 1/ ]b. Black tmrants: 1/4 to 1/6 lb. Vegetables. KiHiiara.i, 2d lb; lettuce, 2d ami 3d each; pumpkin. 4d lb; potatoes, new, \Vz& to 2d lb; carrots, 3d bunch; hard cooking onions, 3d; spring onions, 2d; rhubarb, 4d: parsnips, 2d bunch; swedee, 3d lb; radish, 2d hunch: strinsrless beans. 4d 1b; green peas, 4d and 6d lb; marrows, 4d to 8d each; cuciinilwrs, 3d to 6d eat-h; apple cucumbers, *2d and 3i' each. Butter.—Factory, first grade, 1/6% lb; eecond grade. 1/6. Cheese.—Mild, 1/2; tasty, 1/9. Eggs. Hen: A grade, 2/ dozen; B grade, 1/10. Duck: A «Tade. 1/8; B grade, 1/7.
