QUESTION OF LICENSES.
Finality lia« not yet been reached in connection with the issue by the Auckland Transport Board. sitting ae the Auckland Metropolitan Licensing Authority, of licenses for taxis plying for hire in the Auckland metropolitan area.
The authority held a sitting itt November last to consider 298 applications for licenses, and a large amount of evidence was heard. The authority (subsequently held a meeting* and th£ matter was referred to the principal Operating companies for a report. Another was that if a single tele* ph&ne system were instituted, with a saving of mileage and dead running, and a spread of houre through a shift ays* tem, aa increase would not be necessary
