MANY COMB TO NSW KSAUND
One of the beet-known shipping men in the East, Mr. W. P. J. Koper, who recently relinquished the position of representative of the Netherlands Line at Batavia. arrived in the Dutch liner Roggeveen this morning to spend a short 'holiday in the Dominion.
Mr. Koper lia« been ap|*ointed a director of the Hague office of the line and ho will take up his new position in July. He intends to remain in New Zealand until February 10, then proceed to Holland. via Australia, China and Japan. The Netherlands Line is one of the two largest in Holland and operates the mail service between Batavia and Holland. Mr. Ko|K>r said tfliat although the line had lo*t one of its most modern freighters thmugh lieing mined ot torpedoed off France, they intended to continue sending freighters direct to Holland. In common with the other mail lines, however, passenger sdiips were now lieing taken only as far as Genoa, whence |m*BCiigers continued tlieir journey by special boat train through France and Belgium. Mr. Ko|»er added that tliei-e was a tendency for passenger traffic to Australia ami New Zealand to increase. Although liners from Holland to Kat-avia were still well patronised, mostly by people returning home, there wa» a drop in the number of passenger* to Europe. Ho thought that many people in the future would Kpend their vacations in the Dominion.
