ALLOCATION FOR IMPORTS.
EXPLANATION OF POSITION.
At its la>t meeting before the holidays the Auckland Chamber of Commerce wrote to the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, snggei»ting that an additional amount of sterling funds should be allocated in respect of iui|H>rt license** for the third |>eriod, having regard to the amount aecrutng from the sale of the Dominion's primary produce.
The Minister has replied that the p6si i thai was that) in determining the amount to be allocated for imports during the period in question, account was taken of the funds estimated to accriie during the period. Should it be found, however, that a greater amount wan available than estimated, the Government Would give full consideration to applying such amount for the purpose of providing for additional import? of essential commodities, particularly from the L'nited Kingdom.
