STRANGE COMMENT.

U.S. Proposal To Build Huge

' Battleships.

NEW VESSELS BEST IN WORLD,

WASHINGTON, January 10.

Continuing his evidence before the Naval Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, the Ohief of Xaval Operations, Admiral H. R. Stark, expressed the opinion that the proposed battleships of 80,000 tons would be "too big or else not, big enough," but he did not explain what he meant by that. The United States Navy was investigating the possibilities of 52,000-ton battleships armed with 18in guns, said Admiral Stark. He expressed satisfaction with the four contemplated 45,000-ton battleships, which will have a speed of 33 knots, and said they were probably the best being built by any nation.
