N.Z.'S RESOURCES.
WEALTH AND MANPOWER.
MOBILISATION PREDICTED.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
INVERCARGILL, Wednesday,
"Ninety per cent of the people of this part of New Zealand 'believe in the mobilisation of all our resources, wealth and manpower, and it will surely eventuate," declared the Mayor of Invereargill, Mr. J. R. Hanan, at a civic farewell to Southland members of the Special Military Force to-niglit. "Ihe men of the Special Force have not waited or held back ill voluntarily offering their services to the nation," Mr. Hanan added. "They are worthy successors to the Main Body of New Zealanders who left our shores 25 vears ago. I heir action may offer no material rewards, but they are blazing a trail which is an inspiration to us and a shining example to future generations." Mr. Hanan said that the defeat of Germany would be no easy task, but although the cost might be high all would hope the peace treaty this time would be signed in Berlin. If it were signed in London they could 6afely assume that one of the German prizes of victory would be the incorporation of New Zealand in the Third Reich. '"Our part, therefo-e, must be the maximum effort to subdue the common foe," he added. "Great sacrifices will have to 'be made by the people of New Zealand. Pacifists, Communists and others who appear to act as traitors should, I think will, be dealt with more firmly than in the last war."
