CITY MILK BARS.
ADVERSE PUBLICITY, LICENSING QUESTION. SPECIAL MEETING- PKOPOSEU. i Conoern at the adverse publicity given in a weekly newspaper to the registration of milk bars and the quality of the product they sold was expressed by a deputation representing two of th* firms operating in the city, which waited oj* the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council to-day. The matter was discussed at a recent meeting of the council, following a report by the technical adviser. The members of the deputation pointed out that they were among the 80 owners of milk bars, who had voluntarily taken out licenses with the council and who were trying to keep the quality of their products as high possible. They protested against the attitude of the newspa[ier, contending that many of the statements were contrary to fact. They agreed that it was imperative that all milk bars should be licensed. The chairman, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, stated that the technical adviser's report had made complaints against the control of certain bars, but the references were particular and not general. As regards dirty milk the report referred to one case only, and aimed at the licensing of all bars to permit supervision in the interests of the public. A letter was also received from a firm operating a large number of bars in the city complaining of certain aspects of the publicity and pointing out the methods adopted to ensure absolute cleanliness. The council decided to hold a special meeting next Friday, at which milk-bar interests would be invited to confer with the object of securing a satisfactorysolution of the licensing question.
