WATERSIDE BAND.
REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE.
There was ibrief discussion at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday afternoon when the Auckland Wateixide Workers' Silver Band asked for a donation to a fund for the purpose of purchasing a new set of instruments. It was stated that the present instruments were 20 years old and that it was proposed to form a boys' band.
Mr. E. J. Phelan said the cost of new instruments would lie well over £1000, and the old instruments would be used to train new members.
Members held divergent views of the amount of the donation that should be given, and it wa« finally decided to refer the matter to the board in committee.
