Motorised Attack To Cut Off Poles' Retreat.

MACHINE-GUNNING REFUGEES. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 11.30 a.m.) BERLIN, September 15. A German communique states that German troops successfully withstood a desperate Polish attempt to break through in the region of Kutno. Our troops continue to approach the Warsaw suburb of Praga from the northeast and south-east.

"Several unsuccessful attempts have been made to pierce our lines. Our troops are marching towards Bre6tLitovsk. They penetrated the city's fortified zones from the north. Some forte were blown up, but the citadel is still holding out.

"In Polish Silesia, we captured the oilfield of Jaslo Boryslav, after successfully turning the fortifications at Przemysl.

"The German right wing south of Lwow is advancing with motorised units towards Hordenka in an attempt to close the Polish-Rumanian frontier and cut off the retreat of the Polish armies. Reports indicate that the Polish line along the Carpathians has been turned as far as Stanislavov."

German aeroplanes are still sweeping the main roads of Eastern Poland, says a message from Warsaw. They machinegunned a thousand refugees who were struggling westward in the wake of the retreating Polish Army before the oncoming invaders.
