PAPER AS A MIRROR
-V sheet of uotepaper is quite smooth ami shiny, hut wo do 'not generally use it as a mirror. Von can readily demon - .-'rale, however, how it eau bo made to serve, as one. Light a onndlo and place it on a table. Put tlie sheet of notepaper on top of a pile of hooks so that it is> just oil a level with tlio bottom of the candle wick. Now bring your eye down until it is almost on a level with the paper, and you will see a clear reflection of the candio flame from the pa|kt. The reason is that the light from the candle just grazes the paper, and at this angle nearly the whole of the light is lolloctcd. ihe same thing eau be seen when you are travelling along a smooth road, and a depression ju tlie road brings your eyes on a level with the rondwav ahead. You can then see the sky reflected from the road surface.
