CONTROL OF PRICES.
CO-CPERATION EFFORT.
GROCERS AND TRIBUNAL.
The Price Investigation Tribunal has accepted the offer of the New Zealand Master Grocers' Federation to co-operate in a full inquiry into the costs and selling prices of groceries stocked by retail shop-keepers. All grocery businesses in the Dominion will be covered by the survey, and it is expected the federation will continue to assist the tribunal in the control of prices throughout the period of the war.
"Immediate steps are being taken," said the secretary of the federation, Mr. R. M. Barker, this morning. "The inquiry will be carried out as quickly aa possible, and all the information obtained will be passed 011 to the tribunal. Every effort will be tna.de to secure accuracy and uniformity in the returns compiled by individual grocers, and the work will be simplified as far as possible."
City as well as country "rocers would be asked to submit returns, he added. The federation recognised the need for action along the proposed lines and the Government had expressed appreciation of its offer of assistance.
