GISBORNE, this day.

The response to an appeal to womei and girle of 16 years and upwards, issued by the nursing division of St. John Ambulance Association, was most gratifying. Between 50 and 60 offered their services in any emergency in which they could he used for nursing' or first aid. Many others communicated with officers of the association by telephone and there was an assurance that a fairly adequate number of women and girls would be trained in the course of a few weeks.
