CATHOLIC WOMEN.

OFFER OF SERVICES.

At an At Home held by the Catholic Women's League last evening the president, Mrs. M. Pilling, announced that in view of the present crisis in which the country was involved the league had offered its services as a body to the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davie, to be used in any way in which he should think fit. Mrs. Pilling said that she trusted that the members would devote their time and interest to any call that might be made upon them and that their united effort of service would be a worthy one.

An address was given by Mr. S>. Geary, the secretary of the Apostolate of the Sea, in which he asked if members would give donations of papers, magazines, books and other small comforts to his organisation. He s|>oke of the added need for cheer for sailors, especially for the men of merchant vessels when they arrived in port after experiencing the tension of perilous sea voyages.

A varied programme was presented during the evening. A dramatic sketch, convened by Miss R. Robinson, was presented by Mies Pat Hilton, Miss M. Kemble, Miss M. O'Dowd, Mr. D. Pecocke and Mr. D.' Flood. Solos were sung by Miss B. Walsh and Miss Mitchell, Miss Rowe gave elocutionary items, and a sketch was presented by Miss Peggi Cruickshank. Mrs. Towsev played the piano accompaniments.
