REFORMER HONOURED.

HENRY GEORGE'S PRINCIPLES. If the principles enunciated by Henry George had been put into practice there would not have been the last war nor the one which was threatening the world to-day, said Mr. E. Stevenson, speaking under the auspices of. the Rationalist Association and Sunday Freedom League at the Strand Theatre on Sunday evening. Mr. A. Hall Skelton presided. Mr. Stevenson's address, entitled "Henry and Reformer," was in hononr of the centenary of the birth of George, who was born in a little town near Philadelphia on September 2, 1839. Henry George, said the! speaker, recognised the cause o'f poverty in the midst of plenty. While some people attributed the world's economic troubles to the money question, he saw that the land question was a more important matter. He exposed the fallacy of the contention that wars were necessary to kill off the superfluous population, and stated that a large community could supply itself better than a small one because of the greater division of labour. He advocated taxation on unimproved values.
