PAYMENT TO WIDOW.
Murder Of British Consul In Iraq Recalled.
WAS STRUCK WITH PICKAXE
(Kecelved 11.30 a.m.) BAGDAD, August 14. The Government of Iraq is paying the widow of the British Consul at Mosul, Mr. G. E. A. C. Monck-Mason, who was murdered on April 5, the sum of £20,000 in compensation. During a demonstration which followed receipt of the news of the death of King Ghazi, who was killed in a highspeed motor smash on April 4, Mr. Monck-Mason was struck down with a pickaxe. Agitators infuriated a mob by asserting that the British had murdered the King. The Iraq Government later issued a statement expressing detestation of the "dastardly crime" and saying that it was sure the whole nation would agree on the necessity for clearing the good name of Iraq.
