THE PRINCIPAL EVENTS.

NEW PERFORMERS TO APPEAR

The declaration of handicaps for the Auckland Trotting Olu'b'e opening meeting of the 1939-40 season at Alexandra Park on Saturday week accentuates interest in the light harness aport, and this will be added Co by the appearance at the fixture of a number of new horses from t>he South Island and one from Australia. Some of the newcomers to the province have winning form to their credit, notably Isabel Derby, Lady Vaseylne, Fortex, Monty Chimes and Llewellyn's Pet. The Australian visitor is Wilbur's Heiress, a novice, trained at Takanini on behalf of Br. M. G. Pezaro and Mi. E. G. Bridgens. The principal event on the programme, the August Handicap, is run over a mile and a half, with a 3.23 limit. It is not a big field, only ten horses, but the issue bears an open appearance, partly due to reassessments. For instance, Kewpies aViumph, Double Great and Our Me Kinney have been let , up 24yds on last .season's mark, Kewpies King 12yds and Sandiwky 12yds.
