LATE MR. E. L. BAILLIEU'S HORSES.

MELBOURNE. August 11

Scrcn horsfs in which the late Mr. E. L. Baillieu was interested were sold to-day by auction. Bidding was remarkably keen, and the top price of 1150 guineas was paid for the Heroic three-year-old colt Atlas, who was purchased by Mrs. C. Cook. Victoria. The two-year-old Force fetched 1100 guineas, the buyer being Mr. P. Osborne. Xew South Wales. Force is a handsome colt by Manitoba from Werbelle. The English-bred mare Four Gates, by Felstead. was bought for 1050 euineas by Mr. H. Raymond, of the St. Albans stud. The prices of other lots ranged from 825 guineas to 450 guineas.

TARANAKI HUNT.

The combined race meeting of the Taranaki and the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt* will take place at New Plymouth on August 31 and September 2. An excellent programme has been prepared, including the race for the Duke of Gloucester C'up. which is decided in different parts of the Dominion each season. Nominations for all events close with the eccretary, Mr. C. B. Webster, Xew Plymouth, at 9 p.m. next Monday.
