Napier's visiting seal, which apparently came ashore to recover from a wound on the shoulder, left this morning.
The seal, which had been cared for by Mr. W. H. Carter since it surprised him by pushing open his back door early one morning last week, made a surprisingly quk-k recovery. It took no food but was. content to rest. On Wednesday morning, for the first time since its arrival, it left the woodshed where it had settled, and again yesterday it appeared fit enough to flop round Mr. Carter's backyard in livelv fashion.
Last night Mr. Carter thought the seal seemed well enough to bo put hack in the <sea. and this morning as soon as it was carried down to the beach it made straight for the water and swam quickly awav.
Another seal, which appeared t') be four or five feet long, was sighted yesterday basking on a black rock a short distance off shore near Cape Kidnappers. The appearance of these two *eals near Xapier and the arrival of another at Timaru recently that large numbers of seals are mcinjr northwards from their home in the Auckland in consequence of tlie exceedingly co!<i u eat her.
