BOAT HARBOUR.

OKAHU BAY SCHEME. QUESTION OF BUILDINGS. An assurance that the accommodation which is to be provided in Okahu Bay .'or tho craft of yachtsmen will be so constructed as to harmonise with the •.urroundings and be an asset to the lifltrict was given this morning by the •hairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, Mr. W. B. Darlow. While some emporary buildings would be necessary ,o the scheme before it was carried to "ruition, Mr. Darlow declared that these structures would not be permitted to emain in the boat harbour for a day longer than necessary. "I sincerely regret the misapprehension which is prevailing in connection with the board's proposal* as they relate to the development of Okahu Bay as a boat harbour," said Mr. Darlow." "The board anticipated that it would have no difficulty in making permanent accommodation available for yachtsmen in Okahu Bay in the coming season, but, owing to unforeseen developments, that ifi not now possible. In the meantime the yachtsmen who have been usjng the Mechanics' Bay area have to vacate that stretch of water, but the board has in hand the matter of drawing up plans for permanent facilities for yachtsmen in Okahu Bay. Within a few weeks we hope to have plans completed. Tenders will then be called and the work put in hand immediately. "The marine activities committee for tho Centennial celebrat ! ins," added Mr. Darlow, "propose* to stage the greatest yachting event ever held in the southern hemisphere in the early part of next year, and should the board not be able to proceed with the erection of the accommodation for yachts in Okahu Bay it will mean that many hundreds of craft will be debarred from participating in the big aquatic event. I feel sure, however, that when the objectors realise tho true position of yachtsmen and of the board they will withdraw any objections which they may have to the scheme." I
