"NO DEADLOCK."
PASSENGER DRIVERS. STATEMENTS MADE TO PRESS. "The statements made by Mr. Matthews in last night's 'Star' are not correct," stated Mr. T. H. Bonnett, manager of the Central Bus Services and a member of the executive of the New Zealand Omnibus Proprietors' Association, commenting on the recent conference between representatives of the New Zealand Motor Omnibus Proprietors' Association and representatives of the Drivers' Federation. "There is definitely no deadlock as far as the employees are concerned," Mr. Bonnett continued. "A round table conference was held in Wellington and minor anomalies were discussed and tentatively agreed upon between representatives of the parties concerned. Both sides agreed to refer the suggestion to their respective organisations for ratification. "An increase in hours was definitely not suggested or considered by the New Zealand Omnibus Proprietors' Association. Mr. C. L. Bishop, secretary of the association, has circularised every member of the organisation and is now awaiting a reply from each operator. I communicated with Mr. Bishop in Wellington this morning and he stated that Mr. Matthews' report came as an absolute surprise as the conference was conducted in an amicable and satisfactory manner." Mr. Bonnett made this statement on behalf of the New Zealand Omnibus Proprietors' Association, with a view to maintaining the good feeling which has always existed between the employers and the drivers.
