MAORI'S OFFENCE.
COMMITTED TOR SENTENCE.
Pleading guilty to attempting » n ful carnal knowledge of a girl of 12 j years, William Waru Puru, a Maori, aged 27. was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence by Mr. J. Moiling, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. Detective-Sergeant McHugli prosecuted, accused being represented by Mr. (ia click. The offence was committed during the holding of a "Paddy's Market" at the old school buildings. I'aumtire, on -Tune 17. Detective H. A. Wilson produced a signed statement made by the accused in which he admitted the offence, but said that he was drunk at the time. Constable Dalton. who arrested accused that night, and Detective Wilson, who interviewed him later, both stated that accused was sober.
