"NOT SURPRISING."

NEW TRADE POSITION.

BRITAIN AND NEW ZEALAND.

(From Our Correspondent.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday. The trade position between Britain and New Zealand was commented upon by Sir Harry Batterbee. United Kingdom High Commissioner in New Zealand, during an addreee to the Hawera Rotary Club to-day. "Even between such countries a? Great Britaiu and New Zealand, which are on such friendly terms with oiip another, many points arise which cal! for adjustment and discussion," said Sir Harry. Because of one or two changes lately the necessity had arisen for consultation and discussion. In Great Britain an effort was being made to make the country more self-sufficient as far as foodstuffs were concerned in order to ensure that the people were adequately prepared for any emergency. In New Zealand energy had been devoted to the development of secondary industries. "There :« nothing surprising abou l all this and there is no reason why the change should not be brought about, , ' the speaker continued, referring in particular to the latter point, '"as long as it is undertaken with goodwill and understanding."
