MACHINE GUNNERS' VIEW
(By Telegraph.— Tress Association.)
I'ALMKRSTON NORTH, this day
.Machine gunners of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force held a reunion on Saturday, in the course of which defence topics were discussed. '1 he following resolution was curried: —
"1 his inciting views with the greatest concern the puvciit absurd method of training volunteers for defence in New Zealand. We consider the voluntary system is, and must, be a failure. As regards the effective defence, the Government should immediately bring forward a comprehensive scheme of compulsory trailing, whereby trainees would receive at least three full months' annual training. This meeting will assist the Government in any training scheme it brings forward, but we definitely consider any system other than that of compulsory training in sheer waste of time."
