Xo Increase In Rate.—ln commenting on the estimates, the Mayor, Mr. A. T. The Mayor further pointed out that the same provision had lx>en made for expenditure on street* and footpaths, but with the increased use of plant there was an increase of £530 in plant operation costs. It was difficult for the council to meet this, but it was hoped that the increased expenditure would provide many improvement* to the present roads and footpaths. Water Maintenance Account.—The town clerk reporte<l that the estimates for the water maintenance account only showed an excess of receipts over expenditure of £250. The council resolved not to make any increase in charges at present in an effort to eliminate the debit ball nee of £tjlso. but to endeavour to increase the surplus by effecting economies.
