TOTAL FOR DOMINION.

HIGHER THAN LAST YEAR. RETURNS EXCEED £9,200,000. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. Receipts from Xew Zealand wool sales during the season just concluded totalled ; £9.220.741, an increase of £420.868 over 11 lie figure for the previous season. The j rise was accounted for by an increase of , 92.167 bales in the total amount sold during the season. Average prices were £13 0/11 a bale. as against £14 6/2 in the previous season j and £22 9/ in the 1936-37 season. Total j receipts in 1936-37 were £14,903.257, so I that the return this sea-son represents a j drop on that year of £5,682,516. I The season was remarkable for the I relative steadiness of prices throughout. {and for the excellent clearance effected jat all centres. The season opened with | a fair quantity of wool still in stock, but j little is now left to be dealt with. ! Another feature was that although the 1 international situation was exceedingly I disturbed throughout the season there was a constant and steady demand for wool. It is unlikely that more than a very few farmers will be able to make wool-growing pay at the return they received this season, but the new season will start with the great advantage of almost clear stores.
