BUTTER AND CHEESE. WINTER SHOW EXHIBITS. CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS. High praise for the butter and cheese exhibits at the Auckland Winter Exhibition is given by Mr. E. C. Wood, dairy produce grader, on behalf of the dairy division judges at the exhibition, which will be officially opened to-night by the deputy-Mayor, Mr. J A. C. Allum. "This year's butter exhibits are uniform and sound in quality, and it is not often that so little irregularity has been noticeable when judging for winter shows," said Mr. Wood. •■'ln all the classes the judges had a difficult task in deciding the winning exhibits, and competitors are to be congratulated on their efforts.

"A very pleasing feature of the cheese section is the clean and attractive condition of all entries," he added. "Credit is due to the exhibitors for the care taken in bandaging and trimming, which makes for neat and tidy finish. As the cheeses were manufactured during the recent long period of dry weather, it was difficult for eheesemakers to produce cheese as firm and plastic in body as could be desired, most of the exhibits being somewhat tender in bodv.

'•Flavours are uniform and satisfactory, and on the whole texture is fairly close. An outstanding feature in the cheese, section is the lack of entries from Auckland factories, the bulk coining from Taranaki ani Wellington districts." Awards were:— BUTTER.
