THREE MEN HURT.
EXPRESS STRIKES LORRY. REMARKABLE ESCAPES. ""~~~~ i (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HAWERA, Tuesday. A remarkable escape from serious injury was experienced by eight men who were passengers on a motor lorry which was struck by the Wellington express on the Mokoia level crossing this morning. Three of the men were taken to hospital with more or less superficial injuries, but the other five suffered little more than shock, minor cuts, abrasion* and sprains. The men taken to hospital were:— Mr. . Percy Wills, scalp wounds; Mr. Reginald Hardy, scalp wounds; Mr. Maurice Brough, face wounds and sprained ankle. The lorry was struck behind the cab and wae dragged into the cattle etops The driver, Mr. Clifford Wilis, said he never saw the train till it was almost on him, and never heard the whistle. The fact that the train was travelling slowly saved the men from more serious injuries.
