FIFTH SWIMMING RECORD. DURBAN, April 20. Noel Ryan, the Australian swimmer, broke a South African record for the fifth time when he covered 500 yards at freestyle in 5.42 1-5.

The world record of 5.18 3-5 for 500 yards was established by J. Medica at Chicago on April 6, 193j!
