Tt is widely believed that Japan lias more earthquakes than any country in the world. This is not so. Chile, in South America, has ten times as many as Japan—lol)o a year. Many believe Japan to be the champion earthquake centre because it is very thickly populated, and whenever there is a severe shock to the earth's crust the loss of human life is greater than in less closely settled Chile.
