OBJECTIONS HEARD.

CITY RATEABLE VALUES. Assessment court sitting. The question of the rateable values of a number of caretakers' residences on the roofs of city buildings was raised at a sitting of the City Assessment Court to-day. These cases were among the objections that have been made against valuations for rating purposes for the year 1939-40. After the valuations had been made for the city area 513 objections were received, affecting 880 assessments. Before the Court opened to-day, however, a large number of the objections had been disposed of either by compromise or withdrawal, while several more were struck off the list as a result of the non-appearance of the objectors. JVIr. W. R. McKean, S.M., presided, and the cases for the Auckland City Council were presented by the oity solicitor, Mr. .. J, ; Stanton, and .the acting-city valuer. 'Mr. N. W. Kenny;. ! !
