BOMB OUTRAGE.
HAMMERSMITH BRIDGE Pedestrian's Lucky Escape In London. OVER 100 WINDOWS BROKEN. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON*, March 29. Two time bombs exploded on Hammersmith Bridge early this morning and blew away part of the superstructure in the centre. The explosions were heard over a wide area and windows in buildings in the neighbourhood were broken. Nobody was injured? The bridge has been temporarily closed. A man was walking on the bridge footpath when he picked up a box from which he heard crackles. He threw it into the river, and the box exploded before touching the water. As the man left the bridge, a second explosion occurred on the other footpath. A car-hire firm reports that a chauffeur drove two men to the Thames and stopped near the biidge. The chauffeur was held down when the explosion occurred, after which the men disappeared. Over 100 windows were broken in the vicinity of the bridge. Two men have been detained in connection with the explosion. It is ex--1 pected that the bridge will be closed to heavy traffic for three weeks, as the overhead suspension girders have been seriously damaged.
