GARDEN PARTY.

Y.W.C.A. FUNDS. "MILE OF SIXPENCES." i __ In the beautiful gardens of St. Annes, the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nathan, Arnev Road, Remuera, a wellattended garden party was held yesterday in aid of the "mile-of-sixpences" campaign of the Young Women's Christian Association. It was splendid weather for such a function, and the guests were expressive in their appreciation of the lovely flower beds and the attractive paved paths which led to many garden treasures. On arrival the guests were received by the president of the Auckland association, Mrs. M. Rudd, who wore a frock of wine-coloured silk patterned in white, with a matching hat and skunk cape. Miss E. Bennet, secretary of the association, who assisted her, wore a camelhair suit of London tan and felt hat to match.

Guests of honour were Miss Ruth Woodsmall, world secretary of the association, and Miss Ethel Law, New Zealand general secretary. They were welcomed by Mrs. Nathan, who wore a suit of white corded silk patterned in red and black, and a small white straw hat. Miss Woodsmall was in a burgundy ensemble of silk and lace with a beige coat and hat to tone, and Miss Law was in a navy silk suit with whitfe relief and navy hat. Entertainment during the afternoon included a dance on the lawn interpreting "Caprice" and "Coquette" by Miss Sonia Revid. Fencing was demonstrated by Miss Heanne Harmsworth, Miss Joan Mitchell and Miss Fay Aldridge. Tea was later served, the arrangements being in the charge of Mrs. Henderson and Miss Margaret Oliphant. Mrs. Rudd expressed the association's appreciation to Mrs. Nathai: for lending her garden, and, in reply, Mrs. Nathan said that, like all garden lovers, she was happy to share her garden with others, and that she would be willing to entertain again when she felt that her garden was looking its best. The board members present included: Mrs. James Morton. Mrs. W. J. Fletcher, Mrs. Merriman, Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. E. J. Taylor, Mrs. Dawson, Mrs. Bott, Mrs. A. E. Storey, Mrs. Todd Smith, Mrs. T. Clark, Miss Daisy Dempsey and Miss E. Tilsley.
