WORK OF SOCIETY. BRIDGE AFTERNOON. The Farmers' Trading Company's Reception Hall was practically filled yesterday afternoon when over 50 tables were occupied with bridge and mah jong enthusiasts.. The function was the first card party of this season given by the ladies' committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The guests were received by the new president, Mrs. A. C. Green, assisted by the vice-president, Mrs. A. R. H. Francis, Mrs. A. Farmer and Mrs. Millard. During the afternoon the Mayoress, Lady Davis, stated that the society was doing excellent work, and was worthy of support from all animal lovers. Since the beginning of the year, she said, the society's inspector had destroyed 3080 unwanted animals, while homes had been found for 320. If it were not for the excellent work of the ladi a' committee in obtaining funds, the society would not be able to pay the salaries for the "services given by the inspectors.
