EVENTS AT ALEXANDRA PARK.
GOLD EAGLE WINS AT ROTORUA.
RECOLLECTION'S TRACK RECORD.
Four galloping and two trotting meetings were decided in Dominion this afternoon, and chief interest locally centred in the opening day of the Auckland Trotting Club's February fixture at Alexandra Park, and the first day of the Rotorua Racing Club s annual meeting at Arawa Park, Rotorua. The Dunedin Jockey Club, Egmont Racing Club and Poverty Bay Turf Club completed their summer meetings, which opened on Thursday, while at Addington the Canterbury Park Trotting Club put on a one-day meeting.
The weather was fine, the track in good order and there was a large attendance at Alexandra Park. Great Surprise accounted for the Trial Handicap narrowly from Audrey's Last and Gay Moko. There was another good finish in the Waiheke Handicap when Royal Navy scored from Top Hand and Tumble. Contender won the Great Northern Derby.
Conditions were good at Rotorua, and in consequence there was a large attendance. The opening event, the Pohutu Highweight, went to the favourite, Spinning Wheel, with Vaalso and Chikara in the places. Ora King won the Waimangu Stakes and Silver Eagle accounted for the Mokoia Handicap.
