CAR OVER BANK.
SKIDDED IN LOOSE METAL
YOUTHS' LUCKY ESCAPE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAXC.AXUI, this day. Bound for Rotonia to see the finale of the junior and intermediate swimming championships, four youths left Wanganui in a light car on Friday night. When within eight miles of Raetihi the car skidded in loose metal, left the road and somersaulted down a Lank.
The vehicle was wrecked, but the occupants escaped injury, with the exception of. one youth, who had his hand cut. The car somersaulted several times and crashed through some bushes, finally coming to rest on- its wheels 90 feet ]>elow the road level. Two trees prevented it from falling into the bed of a stream.
The youths experienced great difficulty in scrambling back to the road. They made their way to the hut of a roadman, who accommodated them for the night, returning to Wanganui by service car next day. The car was recovered vesterdav.
