BROTHER SAVED.

CLOTHING ON FIRE. SCOUT'S COURAGEOUS ACT. BOT ROLLED IK BLAXXSt. Commendable courage and presence of mind were displayed by a young boy, a member of the Wesley Boy Scout Troop, Kingsland, when his younger brother rushed screaming into the yard of their home yesterday afternoon with his clothing ablaze. Ivor James Lawson, aged eight, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Lawson, of 288, New North Road, Kingsland, was playing near a grass fire on the railway embankment just beyond the Kingsland railway station when his clothing caught fire. A worker from a nearby factory saw his plight and tried to go to his assistance, but the terrified boy eluded him and ran screaming to his home. His brother, Alan, regardless of injury to himself, hurriedly seized a blanket and wrapping it tightly round hiin, rolled him over and over on the ground, thus extinguishing the flames. In so doing, the brother, Alan, ,was himself badly burned. Both boys were taken by car to the Auckland Hospital, where James was admitted, his condition on admission being considered serious. Alan was treated at the casualty department and was afterwards able to return home. It was stated to-day that the prompt and courageous action of the elder boy, who had received his training in the Boy Scout movement, had more than probably saved bis brother's life. The condition of the younger boy was improving to-day.
