HOSPITAL BUILDING.

ARCHITECTS CONFEf&ING. MR. MOODY MEETS MINISTER. Though the chairman of the Auckland Hoepittl Board, Mr. Allan J. Moody had nothing definite to report to the board at its meeting last evening regarding the progress of plans for the proposed new hospital, he indicated that matters in this connection are moving. The appointment of architects was still under discussion. Mr. Moody reported that the Australian architect, Mr. A. G. Stephenson, had arrived in the city and had conferred that day with Mr. Hay Fan-ell, acting architect to the board. Mr. Moody gave an assurance that the board was not in any way committed to any expenditure until the appointment was confirmed by the Department. Dealing with letters received from the New Zealand Institute of Architects on this question, it was decided, on the motion of Mr. Moody, to ask a deputation from that body to meet the board in conference on a date to be arranged. Mr. Moody said that in his opinion this would be a prudent step. After that conference the board could decide finally who were to act as architects for the scheme. Earlier Mr. Moodv had referred to a meeting he had with the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Eraser. Mr. Fraser was most appreciative of the work the board was doing, he said. Whatever criticism the board was subjected to in other quarters they could be sure that the Minister, at least, understood the position, and had the interests of the Auckland hospital at heart. At the present time the Acting-Director-General of Health, Dr. Shore and the inspecting house manager for the Department, Mr. Fenton, were in the city making an Inspection of the hospital in order to make a report to Mr. Fraser concerning the position. Mr. Moody was sure that that report would I back up all that the board had said land done.
