| ONEHUNQA BOROUGH COUNCIL. ! The first meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council this year was held last night, the Mayor, Mr. A. I Centennial Memorial.—A suggestion was received from the Physical Welfare Society of Xew Zealand that the principal ccntennial memorial should take the form of the perpetual endowment of a scheme whereby "the masses" might be kept more simply and more closely in touch with actual scientific views bearing on the physical and mental welfare of the race. Officers Thanked.—The Department of Labour conveyed the hearty thanks and appreciation of the Department for the assistance rendered by the officers of the council during the year in connection with the promotion of employment. Subsidised Works.—Advice was received that the Labour Department proposes to review all existing scheme No. 13 works, but meanwhile district officers may arrange with employing authorities to continue such work. It was further pointed out that it may be necessary to curtail the payment of subsidies on the present basis after March 31 next, and it was desired that where possible arrangements should be made for existing works to be completed by that date.
